Results Show: The Kitchen!

Even though the kitchen is not quite done yet, and not at all organized in any way that makes sense, we’ve made tons of progress…

First: The stupid Dumbwaiter has been scraped and polished!

In keeping with the industrial kitchen look: We ordered this amazing, commercial grade, original John Boos butcher block work table. We love it so much.

Then Tatay came to visit and took. care. of. business. The way fathers sometimes have to do. Some heavy duty shelving brackets and pilot screw, and masonry drill bits, etc. to conquer the brittle plaster wall…

No more reclaimed, washed-up-on-the-shore-from-a-pirate-ship wood planks NONSENSE. Off to Home Depot for some decent (sustainably harvested) lumber!

But we still like that aged, non-sleek rustic look so…

We slapped some paint on the brackets using heat resistant, metal adhering paint (meant to be used on barbeques grills)

We stained the wood to bring out the grain (then polyurethaned to protect from heat and moisture).

Et Voila!

  1. Stumbled across your blog when I googled “kitchen wire shelving” — your kitchen is AMAZING! I love the industrial look, the clean lines and the fact that it’s totally practical. What great place to cook, thanks for sharing.

    • Thank you so much! We’re really happy with how it has turned out up to now. It’s such a friendly space and you’re right: It’s nothing if not practical. I’ll be updating the photos soon once we’ve added a few more touches …hope you check back and let me know what you think! Thanks for stopping by!
